Core Activities

To fulfill its mission CWCD has undertaken four core activities:

Grass root measures

Towards equity, progress and development CWCD implements a three step measure with the marginalized: self assessment by the community ; motivation, problem identification and skill development and empowerment of the poor through building up their self confidence.

Human Resource Development

Within this activity CWCD offers leading edge professional and skill development courses for development practitioners.

Research

To facilitate grass root activities and to develop tools to understand existing notions of community development CWCD conducts field based researches in socio-economic and health issues and issues related to the rights of women and children.

Advocacy

To promote empowerment of the vulnerable groups within the community CWCD provides support through taking advocacy efforts and networking.

Center for Woman & Child Development

Center for Woman & Child Development (CWCD) established in 1990, has been providing technical consultations in the following fields :
A. Community Health
Community Health, Primary Health Care (PHC) & Child Survival activities.
B. Woman & Child Development
Woman and Child Development program including income generating program for woman.
C. Legal Advice
Human Rights, Child Rights and Gender issues.
D. Organizational Management
Organizational matters including official clearances, service regulations, and office administrative procedures.
E. Disaster Management
Disaster preparedness program planning and management.
F. Environment and Development
Effect of environment on health and issues relatedto human resource development.

CWCD facilities

     a. Fully equipped class room for training sessions.
     b. Computer laboratory.
     c. Audio visual material development unit.

Operating areas

Currently CWCD is implementing its activities in Dhaka. Horinakunda, Syedpara and Mymensingh. It is working in partnership with local organizations in Jhenidah and
Muktagacha, By the end of 2006 CWCD plans to extend its working area by 2 more districts.

Organizational Setup

The General Committee consists of 41 fully paid up members. 55% of the members are adolescent girls and women and 45% are adolescent boys and men . Age of members ranges between 17 and 50 years. A majority of the members belong to the socially disadvantaged and economically poor groups with little or no formal education to their credit. In spite of the above membership profile the general committee elects the executive committee for a 3 year period, advises the EC on preparation and implementation of the annual work plan, approves annual budget and annual report. The Executive Committee is composed of 7 members who are elected by the general committee for a 3 year term. It shoulders the responsibilities for the smooth operation of the organization, preparing the annual budget and annual report and presenting the same to the general members for it approval at the annual general meeting
